The naturesclassroom.si web multimedia portal is the central presentation hub for the project Establishing Implementation Conditions for Experiential Education for Sustainable Development (in short: TR-ERM). Project contents are being promoted under the name Nature’s Classroom. The project is being carried out in selective areas of Slovenia and is content-wise embedded into the broader European area. The project is managed and coordinated by Ddr. Ana Vovk Korže.

The essence of the project is education for sustainable development and a responsible approach to natural resources, which are enabled through ecoremediations. Within the project we are setting up educational trails and learning points for exploration, learning and teaching in various parts of Slovenia. We would like to offer young people an authentic environment for acquisition of direct outdoor experience. Much importance is placed on experiential education in a real regional environment and in regard to global problems pertaining to water, soil and biodiversity. Through our educational trails the young can acquire experience in team work, individual research, problem-based approaches and cooperation with local communities. E-learning materials are available for field work.

Nature’s Classroom in the Dravinjska dolina valley is already embedded into the European Nature’s Classroom. Through international experience we would like transfer specific local conditions to the European level and present Slovenia as Europe’s Nature’s Classroom.

With this project we are developing the following competences for various target audiences:

  • Understanding the area and its components, environmental problems and processes in nature and the possibilities of their use for environmental protection and recovery as a development opportunity for local communities.
  • Understanding sustainability through environmental, economic and social aspects.
  • Understanding the importance of educating the public for a consistent sustainable development.
  • Understanding ICT technologies and project work in ecoremediations as tools for sustainable development.
  • Understanding environmental objectives and their achievements through ecoremediations (ERM).
  • Understanding the importance of protected areas and ecologically important areas as the region’s potential for sustainable development of local communities.
  • Proficiency in cooperation with the public in planning development on the local level.
  • Understanding interactions between physical and social factors in the environment.
